Randy K Shaffer, 63
Randy K. Shaffer Sr., 63, of 166 Nadine Dr., New Castle, was surrounded by his family when he passed away. He died the afternoon of December 6, 2008 in Allegheny General Hospital, Pittsburgh.
Born January 31, 1945, in New Castle, to the late Randall M. Shaffer and Ruth Critchlow Shaffer, she survives. Randy was married to the former Renee R. Burdette for 13 years, she preceded him in death in 1978. He has been with his life partner, Ora Wimer, whom he shared and enjoyed 28 years together, she survives. Randy was Presbyterian.
Randy was a owner and operator truck driver for 25 years here in Lawrence County. He previously worked for New Castle Refractories for 6 years, he retired in 2003.
Randy was a former member of the Eagles, Moose, and Elks clubs in New Castle. He is a current member of the VFW Post #315. Randy enjoyed traveling, camping, bowling and going on cruises. He loved watching the Steelers and all golf tournaments. Randy also enjoyed his and Ora's parrot "Maggie".
Randy was a U.S. Army Veteran of the Vietnam War. He held the rank of PVT, E-2, served from February 25, 1963 to January 17, 1966. Randy was an Aircraft Maintenance Crewman. He also served in the U.S. Army Reserve until February 24, 1969.
In addition to his mother, Ruth, and life partner, Ora, he was survived by two sons and daughter-in-laws, Randy K. and Diane Shaffer of New Castle, David A. and Bridgett Wimer of Beaver Falls, Pa; two daughters and son-in-law, Nadine H. Shaffer of New Castle, and Michele N. and Brian Mann of Ellwood City; two sisters, Sandy Taylor of Laguna Beach, CA, and Robyn A. Shaffer of New Castle; a number of nieces and nephews; ten Grandchildren and two Great-Grandchildren.
In addition to his father, Randall, and wife, Renee, Randy was preceded in death by a daughter Amy R. Shaffer.
Visitation for family and friends will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, December 9, 2008 at the Noga Funeral Home, Inc., 1142 S. Mill St. New Castle.
A funeral service will be conducted at 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, December 9, at the funeral home. Rev. Fredrick Gilbert will offficiate. The New Castle Area Honor Guard will also perform full military rites following the service.
