Stanley S Gurgacz , 89

Stanley S. Gurgacz, 89, of 105 Angela Lane, New Castle, died the afternoon of December 5, in the Butler VA Hospital.

Born September 7, 1919 to the late Julian and Ludwika Biedka Gurgacz. Stanley was married to the former Lorraine L. Kelly for 33 years. She survives.Stanley worked as Chief Engineer at Shenango China Corporation in New Castle. He retired after 45 years of service. He was former President of the Engineer Society and New Castle Paws-n-Taws. Stanley enjoyed reading and gardening. He was an avid hunter during most of his life and loved going to the mountains.
Stan had a strong interest in photography.

He attended First Baptist Church. Stanley was a Veteran, U.S. Army, inducted November 5, 1945, honorably discharged November 4, 1948. He held the rank of SGT in the Quarter Master Corp. Stanley received the European African Middle Eastern Service Medal with four battle stars, American Campaign Medal, Good Conduct Medal and the World War II Victory Medal.

In addition to his wife, Lorraine, survivors include a daughter, Lynne M. Smeltzer of New Castle; two sons and daughter-in-laws, David R. and Joy Kelly of Bessemer, PA and Raymond B. and Beth Kelly of Freedom, PA; a sister, Rose Walczak of New Castle; three grandchildren, Sam and Steve Smeltzer of New Castle and Robert Kelly of Freedom, PA.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Greta Regal Gurgacz; two sons, Tom Gurgacz and Todd Kelly; three brothers, John Gurgacz, Joe Gurgacz and Mike Gurgacz; two sisters, Stella Serjak and Helen Surgenavic.

Visitation for family and friends will take place from 10 to 11 a.m. prior to service on Saturday, December 13, at the Noga Funeral Home, Inc., 1142 S. Mill St. New Castle.

A Memorial service will be conducted Saturday, 11 a.m., at the Funeral Home. The Rev. John Yergan from First Baptist Church will officiate. The New Castle Area Honor Guard will conduct military rites following the service.

Lorraine - Please accept my condolences. With my job at Penn Power, I worked with Stan many years when he was at Shenango China. He was a gentleman that I had a great deal of respect for and will never forget. - Jim Haas
