Joseph Paolini, 92, of 1511 Hanna St., died the evening of Jan 17, in the Greer House, 22 W. Clenmoore Blvd., New Castle, Pa.
Born April 27, 1916, in Ellwood City, Pa, to the late Nicola and Virginia Del Vecchio Paolini. Joseph was married for 56 years to Camille A. Fidell Paolini. They were married on January 10, 1946 and she preceded him in death on April 28, 2002.
Joseph worked for Babcock & Wilcox in Kopple, as a machinist for 25 years. He also worked as a machinist for Rockwell Axle Division for 7 years and Westinghouse in Sharon, Pa for 6 years.
Joseph was a graduate of Wampum High School. He was involved in Little League Baseball in Lawrence Co. and enjoyed coaching for over 20 years. Joseph was a member of the C.G.'s club and a former member of the Sponja club. He was an honorary member of the Sylvan Heights Golf course and an avid golfer. He also loved to go fishing and hunting.
Joseph was a member of the Holy Name Society at St. Phillip & James Church for many years. He was also an avid bowler, playing in the seniors league at the Shenango Bowl Away.
Joseph was a U.S. Army, W.W. II, Veteran. He served from Feb 20, 1941 to September 13, 1945. Joseph held the rank of CPL., serving as a machine gunner in the Southern Philippines; Luzon; New Guinea; and Bismarek Archipelago. He received the following medals and citations, Asiatic-Pacific Theater Ribbon w/4 Bronze Stars per WD GO #33/45; Philippine Liberation Ribbon w/2 Bronze Stars per WD GO #33/45. Joseph served with the HQ Battery 99th Field Artillery and the 1st. Calvary Division.
Survivors include three sons and daughter-in-laws, Nicholas F. and Susann Paolini of New Castle, Joseph A. and Christine Paolini of New Castle and James R. and Cheryl Paolini of New Castle; a daughter and son-in-law, Paula J. and John Pflugh of New Castle; two sisters, Mary Eppinger of New Castle, and Anna Downey of Ellwood City, Pa.; 12 Grandchildren and 8 Great-Grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, Camille, he was preceded in death by his parents; grandson, Matthew Paolini; one brother, Mario Paolini.
Visitation for family and friends will be from 4 to 8 p.m., Monday, Jan 19, at the Noga Funeral Home, Inc., 1142 S. Mill St. New Castle. The New Castle Area Honor Guard will conduct Military Rites at 7:45 p.m.
A procession will leave the funeral home at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, Jan 20, for St. Lucy's Church, where a Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. The Rev. Kenneth Keene, Pastor will officiate. Burial will be in SS. Phillip & James Cemetery.
Dear Nick, Joe, Paula, Jim and Families
My deepest symphathy to all of you. I have fond memories of Uncle Joe. I will always remember the trips to the Steelers and Pirates games when we were young at Pitt Stadium and Forbes Field. Uncle Joe was such a kind man.
