Alfred Zehetner Jr., 59, of 119 So. Northview Ave., New Castle, died the morning of January 18, in the Butler VA Hospital.
Born February 25, 1949 to the late Alfred Zehetner Sr. His mother, Katheryn Benesch survives. Alfred married the former Cynthia Lynn McCall. They were married for 35 years, she survives.
Alfred worked for over 30 years as a Shipper and Galvanizer for the Kennedy Tubular Products Co.. Alfred was Protestant.
Alfred graduated in 1969 from New Castle High School. He attended New Castle Business College. Alfred was a member of Eintract Singing Society and Coachman's club.
He was an avid hunter and loved to go fishing. He enjoyed his car, gardening and cooking outside. Alfred really loved to spend time with his children and grandchildren.
Alfred was a U.S. Army, Vietnam War Veteran. He served from June 19, 1969 to June 11, 1971. He held the rank of Specialist 4, and was in the 1st Calvary Division while in Vietnam. Alfred received the Combat Infantry Badge, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal and Air Medal. He was in the U.S. Army Reserve until June 18, 1975.
In addition to his wife, Cynthia, and mother, Katheryn Zehetner, survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Amy Lynn and Keith Critchlow of New Galilee, Pa, a son and daughter-in-law, Alfred and Shannon Zehetner III of New Castle; a brother, Eric Zehetner of New Castle; three sisters, Monica Wheale, Evelyn DeJohn and Hilda Izzo all of New Castle; four grandchildren, Nicholas, Zachary, Jennifer and Alfred IV.
Alfred was preceded in death by his father.
Visitation for family and friends will be from 5 to 8 p.m., Thursday, Jan 22, at the Noga Funeral Home, Inc., 1142 S. Mill St. New Castle, Pa 16103.
A funeral service will be held at 8:00 p.m., Thursday following viewing. The Rev. Dennis Bupp will officiate. The New Castle Area Honor Guard will conduct military rites for Alfred following the service.
To Cindy, Amy and all of your family. I am deeply sorry for your loss. Please know you are in my thoughts and my prayers. I hope that you can find comfort and strength in this very difficult time.
