Ruth Barris Daugherty, 94, of 3349 Wilmington Rd. New Castle, formerly of Cleland Mill Rd., died the night of February 4, 2010, in Jameson Care Center.
Born May 2, 1915, in New Castle. Ruth was the daughter of the late Ransom Wright Barris and Sarah Jane Cooper. She was married for 57 years to Mark E. Daugherty. He preceded her in death on January 15, 1998.
Ruth was Protestant and a member of Mt. Jackson Presbyterian Church. She worked for the Mohawk School District as an elementary school teacher for over 40 years. Ruth received her undergraduate degree from Slippery Rock State Normal School and her Masters in Education from Westminster College.
Ruth was a devout Presbyterian and involved in many church activities. She like to golf, when she was younger and enjoyed reading. Ruth and her husband enjoyed traveling, they traveled to every state in the United States, except for Alaska. Ruth loved her family and she cherished her grandchildren and adored her great-grandchildren very much. She will be sadly missed by all.
Survivors include three grandchildren and their spouses, Anne M. Noga and her husband, Russell, of New Castle, Mark K. Daugherty and his wife, Jana, of New Castle and Sean P. Daugherty and his wife, Anna of Slippery Rock, PA; a daughter-in-law, Patricia A. Daugherty, of New Castle; a son-in-law, Joseph D. Muraco, of Carneige, PA; nieces and nephews, Margaret (Peggy) Seltzer, James Crea, Ruth Ann Michel, Thomas Leslie, Howard Leslie, Glenn Leslie, Joseph Barris and Erma Piacor; and seven great-grandchildren, Christopher M. Noga, Aidan C. Noga, Andrew S. Daugherty, Benjamin M. Daugherty, Elena A. Noga, Katherine M. Daugherty and Mark P. Daugherty .
In addition to her parents and husband, Mark, she was preceded in death by her son, Mark E. Daugherty; her daughter, Naomi R. Muraco; two brothers, Everett Barris and Rev. Eldred Ransom Barris; and two sisters, Mildred Elizabeth Barris and Ethel Mae Leslie.
Calling hours are 4 to 7 p.m., Monday, February 8, 2010 at the Noga Funeral Home, Inc., 1142 S. Mill St. New Castle.
A procession will leave the funeral home on Tuesday morning at 9:30 a.m. for Mt. Jackson Presbyterian Church, where a funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. The Rev. Elizabeth McCormick and Nathan Leslie - Student Pastor will officiate the service. Burial will be in Mt. Jackson U.P. Cemetery.
