Judith A. Nocera, 79, of 107 Ashberry Lane, New Castle, passed away the evening of January 24, 2020 at Allegheny General Hospital, Pittsburgh after a brief illness. She was surrounded by her family at her time of passing.
Judy was born June 2, 1940 in New Castle. She was the daughter of the late Joseph and Dorothy Brown Shaftic. Ms. Nocera was a graduate of New Castle High School, class of 1958. She continued her education at St. Francis School of Nursing, graduating in 1961.
Ms. Nocera worked as a Registered Nurse for 30 years at the former St. Francis Hospital in New Castle. She also worked for 15 years as a Nurse at the former Youth Development Center in Lawrence County. Judy enjoyed going to the Casino, playing the slots and attending shows. She was an avid reader and enjoyed traveling with her family. Nana, as she affectionately was known to many, loved being with her granddaughters; they were the love of her life, as she would always say.
Judy is survived by her daughter, Ann Lynne (Keith) Kotfica of Franklin, MA; son, William F. (Jodi) Nocera of New Castle; three brothers, Joseph C. (Theresa) Shaftic, James E. Shaftic, and Edward L. (Marci) Shaftic, all of New Castle; and three grandchildren, Brittney and Bailey Nocera of New Castle, and Emma Kotfica of Franklin, MA.
Ms. Nocera was preceded in death by her parents, and her sister-in-law, Marilyn Shaftic.
Visitation will be held 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Wednesday, January 29, 2020 at the Noga Funeral Home Inc. 1142 Mill Street, New Castle.
