Alfred Koszela Obituary

Alfred H Koszela, 95, of Ellsworth Bailey Rd, Warren OH passed away the morning of June 4, 2022 with his family at his side.

Alfred was born on February 23, 1927 in New Castle.  He was the son of the late Joseph and Amelia (Magusiak) Koszela. Alfred married the former Olga Fomka on November 22, 1952. They were married over 69 years.  She survives at home.  Alfred was of the Catholic faith and a member of the Holy Trinity Polish National Church.  He was a graduate of New Castle High School, class of 1945.

Mr. Koszela enlisted in the United States Army in 1950, earning the rank of Sergeant.  He was Honorably Discharged in 1952.  He also served 5 years in the Army Reserve.  Alfred worked as a machinist at the former Wean United Corporation. Mr. Koszela was a member of the Polish Falcons, Nest #146. He played high school basketball and had the perfect set shot.  Alfred also coached the basketball team at Holy Trinity Polish National Catholic Church.  Mr. Koszela prided himself on being an organic gardener.

In addition to his wife Olga, Alfred is survived by two of his children, Deborah (Dennis) Steen of Leavittsburg, OH and Timothy Koszela of Surprise, AZ. He is also survived by his daughter-in-law, Carol Koszela of Houston, TX, two granddaughters – Kelsey (Sam) Buchanan and Lindsey (Devin) Sauer; and one great-grandson, Guy Buchanan.

Mr. Koszela was preceded in death by his son, Paul and daughter-in-law, Christine. He was also preceded in death by his parents, five brothers – William, Stanley, Henry, Edward, and his twin Raymond; and two sisters, Helen Gargasz and Jane Alexander.

Visitation will be held on Friday, June 10, 2022 from 2:00 pm to 3:30 pm at the Noga Funeral Home Inc., 1142 Mill Street, New Castle. The New Castle Area Honor Guard will perform full Military Honors for Alfred at 3:30 pm in the funeral home.

A Funeral Service will be held immediately following Military Honors in the Funeral Home. Msgr. John Rencewicz, II pastor of the Holy Trinity Polish National Catholic Church will officiate.  Private burial will be in the Holy Trinity Polish Catholic Cemetery.
