Anthony Paul Walczak, 94, of Shenango Township passed away September 5, 2014, at UPMC Jameson Care Center.
Tony was born July 13, 1930, in New Castle. He was the son of the late Frank and Bella (Sokolowski) Walczak. Tony married the former Loretta A. Burick. She preceded him in death on January 4, 2009. Mr. Walczak was Roman Catholic and a member of Holy Spirit Parish. He was a graduate of Shenango High School, class of 1948.
Following graduation, Mr. Walczak enlisted in the United States Army, stationed in Alaska. Tony retired after numerous years of service with Penn Power as a shipping and receiving manager. He was a member of the Parish Council and Holy Name Society at the former S.S. Philip and James Church. Mr. Walczak also was the former caretaker of S.S. Philip and James cemetery. He was very proud of his garden, a beekeeper in his earlier years, and harvested apples for apple cider. He enjoyed watching all three Pittsburgh sports teams. Mr. Walczak was also very proud of his Polish heritage. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, especially his grandchildren and great-grandson.
Mr. Walczak is survived by his three sons, Dennis J. (Jolene) Walczak of Baton Rouge, LA, Robert M. (Dorothy) Walczak of New Wilmington, PA, and Thomas E. Walczak of New Castle; two grandchildren, Catherine (Michael) Phung of Houston, TX, and Stephen D. (Jesse) Walczak of Denham Springs, LA; and great-grandson, Brecken Paul Walczak.
In addition to his parents and wife Loretta, Tony was preceded in death by five brothers, Stanley Sokolowski, Theodore Walczak, Alexander Walczak, Frank Walczak, and John Walczak; and two sisters, Irene Kuzminski and Clara Shultz.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 11, 2024, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Noga Funeral Home, Inc., 1142 Mill Street New Castle, PA. The New Castle Area Honor Guard will perform full military honors for Anthony at 6:30 p.m. in the funeral home.
A procession will leave the funeral home Thursday morning at 10 a.m. for Holy Spirit Parish-St. Vitus site, where a Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. The Rev. John Gizler Parochial Vicar of Holy Spirit Parish will officiate. Burial will be in S.S. Philip and James Cemetery.
