Barbara J. Sodersten, 73, of 2709 N. Mercer Street, New Castle passed away the afternoon of June 19, 2020 at her residence with her family by her side.
Barbara was born May 31, 1947 in New Castle. She was the daughter of the late James Bradford, her mother Dorothy Black Bradford survives. She was married for 53 years to David C. Sodersten. He survives at home. Mrs. Sodersten was of the Protestant faith and a lifelong and active member of the Highland Presbyterian Church. Mrs. Sodersten was also very proud to be a Deacon and Elder of the church for many years. Barbara was a graduate of Neshannock High School, class of 1965. She graduated from Robert Morris Junior College with an Associate Degree in business.
Mrs. Sodersten worked at the former St. Francis Hospital School of Nursing as the Administrative Assistant to the Director of the School of Nursing for 30 years. She then worked as a secretary for 15 years at the former YDC in Lawrence County. Barbara was very proud to work with Meals on Wheels as a volunteer for many years.
Mrs. Sodersten loved the outdoors; going camping with her husband and family. She also enjoyed boating with her husband. Barbara loved flowers and was an avid animal lover; she loved her rescue dogs, Shayna and Tracy very much. Barbara will be remembered by her family as a loving wife, mother, and step-grandmother.
In addition to her husband David and her mother Dorothy, Barbara is survived by her son, Mark D. (Cathy) Sodersten of New Castle; brother, Craig Bradford of Pittsburgh, PA; and two step-grandchildren, Colton and Carri Myers.
Mrs. Sodersten was preceded in death by her father, James Bradford.
Visitation will be held from 9 to 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 23, 2020 at the Highland Presbyterian Church 708 Highland Ave, New Castle, PA 16101
A Funeral Service will be celebrated immediately following visitation at the Church at 10 a.m.. Pastor Rich Kinney of Highland Presbyterian Church will officiate.
