Catherine Litwinowicz Obituary

Catherine E. Litwinowicz, 96 of Hickory Township peacefully passed away the evening of July 22, 2020 at her residence.

Catherine was born August 13, 1923 in Port Allegheny and was the daughter of the late Jakub and Mary (Gronsky) Regec.  She grew up in Emporium, PA where she enjoyed roller skating, ice skating, bonfires, performing in school plays, bicycling to Sizerville State Park and train rides to New York on shopping expeditions. Catherine was a proud member of the Emporium High School class of 1941 and attended several reunions. This was a place of many wonderful family vacations. After High School, she obtained security to work in the office at the local Sylvania plant and was a member of the secret NHD Club.  Catherine married the late Roman M. Litwinowicz. They were married for 56 years. This picture was taken at Idora Park while they were dating.  He preceded her in death on September 2, 2002. Mrs. Litwinowicz was of the Roman Catholic faith and attended Holy Spirit Parish- St. Vincent De Paul Church.

Mrs. Litwinowicz retired after 25 years of service as an LPN at St. Francis Hospital in New Castle. However, she was a nurse throughout her entire life by looking after the needs of fellow residences in Avalon Place where she lived for two and a half years. She was a member of the Silver Threads at the former SS. Philip and James Church. She cheered on the Pittsburgh Steelers, Penguins, and the beloved Pittsburgh Pirates. She was also often heard to say many times, “We are …!” Catherine enjoyed traveling, especially her two trips to Poland when the country was still under communist rule. She was a wonderful cook. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family and friends, especially her 9 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.

Catherine  is survived by three sons, Stanley (Janet) Litwinowicz of Statesville, NC, James Litwinowicz of New Castle, Thomas (Gina) Litwinowicz of Bay Village, OH; three daughters, Karen Quigley of New Castle; Mary (Mike) Parish of Portersville, PA, Susan (Brian) Miller of Mooresville, NC.

In addition to her parents and husband Roman, Catherine was preceded in death by two brothers, Jack Regec, an infant brother Joseph; two sisters, Mary Coledo and Margaret Freeman Hokemeyer.

Thank you for the loving care of Avalon Place, Family Hospice and brother Jim, who took care of her in the final days at home.
