Cathy R. Schmidt, 75, of 2925 W. State Street passed away the afternoon of May 27, 2026 at Avalon Care Center.
Cathy was born January 31, 1951 in New Castle. She was the daughter of the late James Ralph and Betty Lou (Kennedy) Kradel. Cathy was married to the late Dale F. Schmidt he preceded her in death on February 27, 2021. They were married for 42 years. Mrs. Schmidt was Roman Catholic and attended Holy Spirit Parish-Mary, Mother of Hope site. Cathy was a graduate for Union High School, class of 1968. Cathy continued her education at Youngstown State University
Mrs. Schmidt retired after 18 years of service as Township Secretary and Treasurer for Union Township. She also worked at the former Shenango Pottery for 10 years. Cathy was past president of the Ladies Auxillary of St. Lucy’s Club. She enjoyed socializing with her numerous friends, and keeping up with all of them on social media, Cathy also enjoyed taking her friends and family on local casino trips. She was known to go out of her way and help anyone out. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family and friends, especially her grandchildren.
Cathy is survived by her daughter, Kelly Kradel Schmidt of New Castle; two sisters, Kimberly Disque and Stacey Kradel; and three granddaughters, Reilly Rosta, Trinity Rosta, and Caitlin Rosta.
In addition to her parents and husband Dale, Cathy was preceded in death by her brother, Jeffrey Kradel; and brother-in-law, Wayne Disque.
A private service for family and immediate friends will be held on Monday at the Noga Funeral Home Inc. 1142 Mill Street, New Castle. Deacon John Carran of Holy Spirit Parish will officiate. Entombment will be in Resurrection Mausoleum at St. Mary’s Cemetery.
