Darlene R. Smith

Darlene R. Smith, 65, of 813 Vogan Street New Castle passed away the afternoon of August 15, 2021 at UPMC Jameson Hospital.

Darlene was born February 9, 1956 in New Castle. She was the daughter of the later Bernice Bookamer. Darlene was married on March 12, 1973 to Michael F. Smith. They were married for 48 years. He survives her at home. Mrs. Smith was of the Roman Catholic faith and attended Holy Spirit Parish-Mary, Mother of Hope Church. Darlene was a graduate of New Castle High School, class of 1974.

Mrs. Smith will be remembered by her family as a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. Darlene enjoyed playing bingo at the American Legion in New Castle. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family and friends, especially her grandchildren. 

Darlene is survived by her husband, Michael F. Smith of New Castle; son, Brian (Fiancée Jessica) Smith of New Castle; two daughters, Kimberly (Chris) Carbone, and Melody (Keith) Guthrie both of Tennessee; two brothers, Heyward (Katie) Ritter of New Castle, and Guy Ritter of Hillsville, PA; two sisters, Beverly Joseph of Tennessee, and Glenda Covelli of Harlansburg, PA

In addition to her parents, Darlene was preceded in death by her four sisters, Charlene Hawkins, Marlene Everley, Carol Jenkins, and Evelyn McCracken; two brothers, Donald Halfhill, and John Ritter.

Visitation will be held from 1 to 3 pm on Friday, August 20, 2021 at the Noga Funeral Home Inc., 1142 Mill Street, New Castle.

A Blessing Service will be immediately follow visitation in the funeral home. Deacon John Carran of Holy Spirit Parish-Mary, Mother of Hope Church will officiate. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery.
