Delores Koscinski Obituary

Delores Jane Koscinski (nee Sniezek), of Union Township, passed away at her home, in the afternoon of Sunday, September 14, 2025, at the age of 78.

Born on December 17, 1946, in New Castle, Pennsylvania, she is the elder daughter of the late Walter J. and Anna M. (nee Sniezek) Sniezek. Delores attended Madonna of Czestochowa School, New Castle, where she received her Eighth-Grade Certificate for completion of studies by the Parish Schools, Diocese of Pittsburgh in 1960. Delores, or “De”, was active in high school in the Student Council, in the National Honor Society, in the Teenettes, in the Leaders Club, as an Office Aid as well as held the office of Senior Class Secretary. She graduated from Union Area High School, as a member of the Class of 1964. As an alumnus, Delores remained active as a Reunion Committee Member for her graduating class over the decades.

She first met, her then future husband, Thomas, as he showed off his shiny muscle car, the 1965 GTO, at a gathering with mutual friends. In the springtime of 1967, she and Tom wed, followed by a honeymoon to Washington, D.C.  In view of the fact of just how many interests they shared, Tom and Delores were always close at hand and never far apart.

Delores began working in the office at the age of 17, for The New Castle Fruit and Produce, which became a major entity in her life. After spending her entire career being of great service to the customers, vendors and employees, continuously, Delores retired from “The Produce,” at its closure in 2008. One thing that was bittersweet to leave behind was the relationships formed and the never-ending stream of fruit basket bow-ribbons.

Delores was a current member of St. Mary Church Holy Spirit Parish. For many years, Delores volunteered with the Sisterhood of Madonna of Czestochowa Parish. She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Thomas E. Koscinski, and her two sons: Kenneth W. Koscinski, and his wife Nadine (Sokoluk) of Tinicum Township/Union Township, Pennsylvania; and Thomas J. Koscinski, and his wife Jennifer, of Hopewell, Pennsylvania; and her one grandson, Alexei. She is also survived by her sister Kathleen Matonak of Trumbull, Connecticut; her sisters-in-law, Janice Sniezek of Neshannock Township; Patricia  J. Koscinski of Shenango Township; and Patricia A. Koscinski of Ohio; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins, extending several generations; and many cherished, life-long friends.

In addition to her parents, Delores, is predeceased by a brother, Paul J. Sniezek; and several brothers-in-law, and a sister-in law of the Koscinski and Matonak families.

Throughout her years, Delores enjoyed many activities and hobbies, passionately. Expressing creativity with her hands by joyfully crocheting, sewing, painting ceramics, and weaving Palm Crosses for Madonna Church. An avid spectator and unwavering fan of the Pittsburgh Sports Teams, “De” was always cheering the Pirates, Penguins, and most of all, her beloved Steelers onto victory! Polka dancing at the various Polish clubs, picnic groves and dance halls throughout the hills of Western Pennsylvania, filled many weekend-hours for her and her husband. Ventures to the Allegheny National Forrest and surrounding counties to enjoy the woods and wildlife, was a nostalgic pleasure. She experienced routine visits to Camp Point, ever since she was very young and expanded to Camp Gorale. Delores was always sharing good times and great laughs up there with family and friends, while making new friends along the way. Broadening her horizons to include outdoor sportsmanship, Delores accomplished her training and began hunting with her husband amongst the mountains of North-Central Pennsylvania, in her latter years. While back in-town, Delores was a founding member of a Weekly Dinner Club. It ran for decades (and still does) with her closest friends, forming a “family” to celebrate together the festive holidays, life’s special moments of joy and supporting in others’ times of sorrows as well as relaxing vacations in the warmer climates. One exciting world-trip, in particular, was extremely sentimental. It was humbling to her to be able to return to the Old Country, the beautiful hillsides of Poland, where she walked the land, and experienced the heritage and culture of her ancestors. Delores was proud of her Polish heritage.

It is hard to simply put into words the extensive opportunities, journeys, and God’s blessings for which shaped Delores’ life. Often, she was found sharing her time with friends and family, by visiting the casino, new and old-favorite eateries, Jimmy Buffett concerts, lending a helping hand, however, ultimately she treasured catching up with everyone via conversations in-person on the back porch, over the phone, or around the campfire. Delores knowingly and unknowingly influenced many lives, and those touched will be forever grateful.

Delores’ family would like to express their sincere gratitude for all of the healthcare professionals and staff, which cared for Delores and gave tremendous support to her family in her brief period of illness.

Her family is honoring Delores’ final request for services and committal to be private.
