Dorothy L. Gabriel, 91 of New Castle, PA passed away the evening of February 9, 2020 at UPMC Jameson Hospital.
Dorothy was born August 25, 1928 in Butler, PA. She was the daughter of the late Ignatz and Katherine (Czcowitz) Szkult. Dorothy was married to the late George Gabriel. He preceded her in death on June 16, 2012. They were married for over 60 years. Mrs. Gabriel was of the Maronite Catholic faith and attended St. John the Baptist Maronite Catholic Church.
Mrs. Gabriel will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, sister, aunt, grandmother, and great-grandmother by her family. Her family was her first priority. Dorothy was a member of the St. John the Baptist Maronite Church Alter and Rosary Society, and Challenge’s Social Club. She enjoyed doing ceramics, playing bingo, and loved going to Casinos with her husband George and Sister-in-Law Rose Byers.
Dorothy is survived by her four children, Richard A. (Rosalie) Gabriel of New Castle, George A. Gabriel of Poland, OH, John (Margaret) Gabriel of Poland, OH; daughter, Patricia Gabriel Hartman of New Castle; sisters, Stella Opperman of Margate FL., and Helen Skegaf of Torrance, CA; seven grandchildren, Richard A. Gabriel Jr., Mario V. (Amanda) Gabriel, Megan (Hunter) Jenkins, John A. Gabriel, Courtney (Jordan) Essa, Kathryn Hartman, and George Gabriel; and two great-grandchildren, Anthony Gabriel and Jordan Essa; and numerous loving nieces and nephews.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; husband George J. Gabriel; granddaughter, Erin L. Robb Gabriel; sister, Violet Baul; brother, Ignatz Szkult.
Calling hours will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday evening, February 12th at the Noga Funeral Home, Inc. 1142 S. Mill Street. An Incense service will be conducted at 6:45 p.m. in the funeral home.
A procession will leave the funeral home Thursday morning at 9:30 a.m. for St. John the Baptist Maronite Church, where a Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Father Antoine Kairouz will officiate.
