Edward Ellison Obituary

Edward Valentine Ellison, 101, passed away February 23, at UPMC Jameson Care Center. He had been living in his own apartment at Jameson Place for one year prior.
Born on February 14, 1920 in New Castle, PA, he was the son of the late Robert Thomas and Mary (Withers) Ellison. He was married to the former Mary Agnes Nelson for nearly 60 years. She preceded him in death on April 8, 2002.
Edward enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1944, and was stationed throughout the United States as an Aviator Machinist Mate III during WW II. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion Post #343, in New Castle. Ed was a member of St. Joseph the Worker Church, now Holy Spirit Parish, where he served as an usher for many years. He belonged to the Holy Name Society and enjoyed being involved in numerous church activities.
He was retired from Pennsylvania Engineering Corporation, where he was a welder. He could fix anything from cars to household repairs. From 1951-1954, after a hard day's work at the mill, he built the family home in Shenango Township, on his own. It was soon filled with love and laughter.
In his younger years he was an avid swimmer and enjoyed riding bicycles as well as motorcycles. He was a tech savvy Senior Citizen. He spent hours reading the news of the world, playing games, and Skyping with his children on his tablet.
He is survived by a son, Edward R. (Betsy) Ellison of Miamisburg, Ohio, daughters Barbara J. (Don) Young of Sparks, Nevada, and Suzann M. (Tony) Bennett of Reno, Nevada; seven grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents and wife, Mary, Edward was preceded in death by a daughter, Linda Ann Poloka, brothers Robert, Harold and Richard Ellison, sisters Dorothy Gibson and Helen Ellison.
Following Ed's wishes, there are no calling hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at noon on Friday, April 9, 2021 at Holy Spirit Parish, Mary Mother of Hope Site, Father Anthony Sciarappa, Parochial Vicar will officiate and burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery.
