Frances (Kwolek) Nord

Frances Nord, 88, of Bessemer passed away the evening of August 21, 2023 with her family by her side.

Frances was born October 30, 1934 in New Castle Pa. She was the daughter of the late Ignatz and Stefania (Gumiezny) Kwolek.  Frances married the late Eldred (Sonny) L. Nord who preceded her in death on September 15, 2001. They were married for 46 years. Frances Nord was of the Protestant faith. She was also a graduate of Shenango High School, class of 1952.

Frances is best known as the cake lady of Bessemer and co-owner of Sonny’s Bait Shop. 

Frances is survived by her two daughters, Beth Ann and Diane (Mark Sackin) Nord, both of Bessemer; and sister, Wanda Leckfor of New Castle.

In addition to her parents and husband Sonny, Frances was also preceded in death by her son, Clint D. Nord, five brothers, Anthony, John, and Chester Gumley, Michael and Joseph Kwolek; and her four sisters, Sophie Lenhart, Lucy Chaffin, Mary Koscinski, and Stella Lastoria.

Visitation will be held on Friday August 25, 2023 from 11am to 1pm at the Noga Funeral Home, 1142 Mill Street, New Castle.

A Funeral Service will be held immediately following visitation at the funeral home. Pastor Nathan Leslie of Bessemer Presbyterian Church will officiate. Burial will be in Castleview Cemetery. The family would like to take this opportunity to extend a special thank you to Dr. Joann Lamb, and Allegheny Health Network Hospice, specifically Billie and Jocelyn for their heartfelt and compassionate care of Frances during her time of need.
