Frank Jereb, 91 of Poland, OH passed was the afternoon of March 13, 2023 at Briarfield Place.
Frank was born Bessemer, PA on November 18, 1931 and was a lifelong resident of Bessemer. He was the son of the late Joseph and Mary (Jordan) Jereb. Mr. Jereb was married to the former Sophie Klabon. She preceded him in death on December 30, 2021. They were married for 66 years. Frank was of the Roman Catholic faith and attended Holy Spirit Parish. Frank was a graduate of Bessemer High School, class of 1949.
Following graduation, Frank served as a Sergeant in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged at Ft. Meade, MD and received the following medals, National Defense Service Medal, Korean Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. Mr. Jereb previously worked at the Bessemer Brick Plant before he retired after numerous years of service as a steelworker for Commercial Shearing Company Youngstown, OH. He enjoyed going Polka dancing with his Sophie. He was an avid outdoorsman that enjoyed hunting, fishing, and going to his camp in Kane, PA. Frank was an avid Cleveland Browns and Guardians fan.
Mr. Jereb is survived by his son, James (Linda) Jereb of Murphy, NC; daughter, Lisa (Chris) Gilboy of Freehold, NJ; two grandchildren, Matthew (Danielle) Gilboy of Baltimore, MD and Kevin (Anisha) Gilboy of Cincinnati, OH; and great-granddaughter, Rosemary Gilboy.
In addition to his parents and wife Sophie, Mr. Jereb was preceded in death by two brothers, Joseph and Lewis Jereb; and sister, Mary Colick.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday March 17, 2023 and Saturday morning from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Noga Funeral Home Inc. 1142 Mill Street, New Castle. The New Castle Area Honor Guard will perform Military Honors for Mr. Jereb at 11 a.m. A Blessing Service will be celebrated following visitation in the funeral home at 11:30 a.m. with Deacon John Carran of Holy Spirit Parish officiating. Burial will be in St. Anthony’s Cemetery.
