Garry R. McConahay Sr., 70, of 337 Ambrosia Road, Edinburg PA, passed away the morning of September 25, 2020 at his residence
Garry was born November 4, 1949 in New Castle. He was the son of the late Robert and Bessie (Hutsler) McConahay. Garry was married to the late Nancy (Tarasek) McConahay. She preceded him in death on October 5, 2012. They were married of 39 years. Mr. McConahay was a graduate of Mohawk High School, class of 1967. He was of the Orthodox faith and former member of St. John’s Orthodox Church in Campbell, OH.
Following graduation, Garry enlisted in the United States Army on April 3, 1971 at United States Army Personal Center in Oakland, CA. Mr. McConahay was a member of the United States Military Police, serving as a Military Police Supervisor. He served his country during the Vietnam War obtaining the rank of Sergeant. Garry received many decorations and citations; among them where the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, and Vietnam Campaign Medal. Garry was Honorably Discharged on June 25, 1975 in Pittsburgh, PA.
Mr. McConahay retired after 20 years as a machine repairman at the former North American Rockwell. He then worked as a Youth Aide at the former Youth Development Center in New Castle for 12 years. Garry was an outdoorsman and enjoyed nature. He loved to go hunting, fishing, and target shooting with his sons. Garry also loved camping with his family. Mr. McConahay enjoyed going to the Casinos and spending time with his dogs.
Garry is survived by his two sons, Garry R. McConahy, Jr. and Mark John McConahay, both of New Castle; four brothers, Timothy P. McConahay of Butler, PA, Robert W. McConahay on Edinburg, PA, Ronald J. McConahay and Roger A. McConahay, both of Heflax, AL.
Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m., Tuesday, September 29, 2020 at the Noga Funeral Home, Inc. 1142 S. Mill Street, New Castle.
A Military service will be held at 5 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home following visitation by the New Castle Area Honor Guard. The Very Rev. Richard Salley of St. Nicholas Russian Orthodox Church will conduct a Funeral Service at 5:30 p.m. Burial will be in Castleview Cemetery.
