George M. Othites, 96, of 14 Manor Ave. New Castle passed away the morning of July 22, 2022 at VA Aspinwall Hospital, Pittsburgh.
George was born January 30, 1926 in New Castle. He was the son of the late Michael and Kaliope (Balasakis) Othites. Mr. Othites was a graduate of New Castle High School, class of 1944. He continued his education following his military service at Westminster College earning a degree in Advertising. He was a member of St. George Greek Orthodox Church her in New Castle.
Mr. Othites enlisted in the United States Navy on June 30, 1944 in Bainbridge, MD. He earned the rank of CM3 and served at USNTADC Williamsburg, VA, USNTS Bainbridge, MD, and on the USS Chicago. Mr. Othites received several citations; among those were the Pacific Theater Ribbon with one-star, American Theater Ribbon, and The WWII Victory Medal. George was Honorably Discharged on May 13, 1946 at the U.S.N. Personal Separation Center in Bainbridge, MD. Mr. Othites retired after 20 years as General Manager with CCS-Adverting in Youngstown, OH. He enjoyed going golfing and bowling, which he continued to participate in until the Covid pandemic.
George is survived by two daughters, Deborah (Robert) Arcovio of Pittsburgh, PA, and Laura Pernotto of Canfield, OH; a son, Michael (Joy) Othites of Phoenix, AZ; seven grandchildren, Kathleen (Dee) Pennyway, Megan (Kevin) Arcovio, Robert (Jennifer) Arcovio, Daniel Arcovio, Ava Pernotto, Morgan Othites, and Tyler Othites; and three great-grandchildren, Harrison Pennyway, Rosalind Pennyway, Eliana Arcovio.
In addition to his parents, George was preceded in death by three brothers, Manual, John, and Constantine Othites; and three sisters, Sadie Othites, Fannie Marcantino, and Eugenia Othites.
