John (Karl) Menges, 69, of Valley Road, New Castle, PA passed away at his residence on May 18, 2022. Karl was the son of John Henry "Jack" Menges who survives in Stuart, FL and his late mother, Doretta Erna Horstmann Menges.
Karl worked in sales for several local businesses and as a self-employed building contractor of residential homes in Lawrence County. He graduated from New Castle Area High School, class of 1971, and studied architecture at Penn State.
An avid fisherman, hunter and collector of Indian artifacts, Karl enjoyed sharing his love of the outdoors with others. For forty years, Karl spent several weeks each summer fishing The Georgian Bay with fellow members of The Pennsylvania Club in Sans Souci, Ontario. He loved trout fishing the Neshannock and Slippery Rock and Steelhead fishing Lake Erie Tributaries. During these excursions, Karl acquired an extensive collection of Indian artifacts which he shared with The King Beaver Archaeological Group. He published two instructional books and several videos on trout and steelhead fishing and guest lectured at Butler Community College on the history of local Indian settlements. He also enjoyed participating in Edwards Golf League.
In addition to his father, survivors include his daughter, Madison Taylor Johnson of Chicago, IL; brother, John Kurt (Kitty) Menges of Erie, PA; sister, Rebecca (Harold) Brocklehurst of New Wilmington, PA; niece Emily Menges and four nephews; Christopher and David Menges and Michael and Bryce Brocklehurst.
Mr. Menges was preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents and his mother, Doretta Menges.
Visitation will be on Monday, June 13, 2022 from 10:00 am until Noon followed by a brief memorial service at the Noga Funeral Home, Inc. 1142 Mill Street, New Castle.
Pastor Jason Dolittle of Faith Country Chapel will officiate. The family has requested donations be made in Karl's name to either: Trout Unlimited Neshannock Chapter #216, 48 Bentley Ave. Greenville, PA 16125 or Lawrence County Humane Society, 628 Pearson Mill Rd, New Castle, PA 16101.
