Jerry Nick Ferilla, 76, of Shenango Township ended his four year battle of IPF on June 30, 2023 with his family at his side at Select Specialty Hospital, Boardman.
He was preceded in death by his parents Josephine (Bonk) and Jerry Ferilla. A 1964 graduate of Shenango Area High School, Jerry received his Bachelor’s and Master’s degree from Slippery Rock University. After teaching in the New Castle Area School District for 36 years he retired and worked several years part-time at Portersville Valve. Since high school, Jerry pursued his love of music by singing and playing keyboards in many local bands: The Axeman, Graduates, Dom More Quintet, Tony Church Thing, Graffiti, Uptown boys, Another Local band (ALB), and Rhythm Express.
His love of the outdoors was evident in the way he spent his leisure time. Driving his Corvette, family beach vacations, fishing trips, hunting trips spent at the “Taj Mahal”, travel trailer adventures, February winters in Florida, travels both across the U.S. and foreign countries, and supporting his grandchildren at various sporting events brought him the greatest joy.
Jerry is survived by his wife of 53 years Louise; his children, Jerry and Terri Ferilla and Jeana and Matthew Colella; and his precious grandchildren, Anthony Jerry (AJ) Ferilla and Natalie Colella; sisters Irene Budzko and Linda (Michael) Lastoria; several cousins; many loving nieces and nephews; “Buddy” his faithful Springer; and three “Chosen Brothers”, Nick Paolini, Dom Morelli, and Dick Cox.
