Joesph Smolinski, Jr. Obituary

Joseph F. Smolinski, Jr., 83, of 937 Rose Ave., New Castle, passed away the morning of February 2, 2025 at the Haven Nursing Home.

Joseph was born November 13, 1941 in New Castle. He was the son of the late Joseph and Sallie (Recheck) Smolinski. Joseph married the former Jean Karnas. She survives at home. Joseph was a member of St. John the Baptist Maronite Catholic Church.  He was a graduate New Castle High School, class of 1960.

Following graduation, Joseph enlisted in the United States Army on July 11, 1960 in Pittsburgh, Pa. Mr. Smolinski was Honorable Discharge on March 23, 1961 in Fort Rucker, Al. Joesph retired after numerous years of service as a truck driver with McLean Trucking Company. Joseph was an animal lover and enjoyed spending time with his dog Lucky. He was a Pittsburgh Steeler fan and enjoyed collecting wrist watches. His greatest joy was spending time with his family and friends.

In addition to his wife Jean, Joseph is survived by his brother, David Smolinski of Allison Park, PA; sister, Cindy (Juan) Fernandez of Harmony, PA; granddaughter, Ashley Karnas; and daughter-in-law, Julie Karnas

Mr. Smolinski was preceded in death by his parents; son, Martin Karnas; and sister-in-law, Mary Smolinski.  

Following Joseph’s wishes there are no calling hours.

The family is asking to meet at the St. John the Baptist Maronite Catholic Church on Thursday, February 6, 2025 at 10:45 a.m., where a Mass of Christian Burial and Rite of Committal will be celebrated at 11 a.m.. The Rev Hanna Karam will officiate. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery. Local arrangements entrusted to the Noga Funeral Home, Inc. 1142 Mill Street New Castle.
