John Chmura Obituary

John J. Chmura, 98, of New Castle passed away the morning of April 4, 2020 at his residence. 
John was born April 5, 1921 in New Castle. He was the son of the late Michael and Katherine Dachko Chmura. John was married to the late Joan E. Boyle. She preceded him in death on January 30, 2004. They were married on September 29, 1951. Mr. Chmura was Roman Catholic and attended Holy Spirit Parish, St. Lucy's site. John was a graduate of New Castle High School, class of 1938. 
Following graduation, John enlisted on August 13, 1942 into the United States Army. Mr. Chmura was a member of the 406th Antiaircraft Gun Battalion, earning the rank of PFC. John served his county overseas; and was involved in battles in GO 33 & 40 WO 45, Naples-Foggia Rome - Arno, Rhineland, and Central Europe Sicily. Mr. Chmura earned many decorations and citations, among them where; Good Conduct Medal, European African Middle Eastern Campaign medal with 5 bronze stars, and the World War II Victory Medal. John was Honorably Discharged on November 18, 1945. 
Mr. Chmura retired after 26 years as a pipefitter at the former Mesta Machine Company in New Castle. John was a member of the American Legion Post #343, Mahoning Sportsman Association, and the K. P. Club. John was an avid outdoorsman enjoying hunting. He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially in the outdoors. 
Mr. Chmura is survived by two sons, Frank G. (Eleni) Chmura and Paul F. Chmura, both of New Castle; five grandchildren, Kimberly (Steve) Mills, Steven Chmura, Jon Chmura, Bryan Chmura, and Adam Chmura; and two great-grandchildren, Mackenzie, and Matthew. 
In addition to this parents and wife Joan, he was preceded in death by his son, John J. Chmura; four sisters, Michalene Chmura, Sophie Chmura, Caroline Seinker, and Jane Owoc; and four brothers, Walter Chmura, Stanley Chmura, Michael Chmura, and Frank Chmura. 
There will be no public visitation at this time. A private service will be held for his immediate family next week. Burial will take place at St. Lucy's Cemetery. 
Arrangements were entrusted to the Noga Funeral Home, Inc. 1142 S. Mill Street New Castle. In lieu of flowers, family requests donations be made to either the American Cancer Society or the American Legion Post #343. Online condolences may be given or viewed by visiting nogafuneralhome.com
