John G. Preisner, Jr., 86 of New Castle passed away the evening July 7, 2024 at his residence.
John was born November 5, 1937 in New Castle. He was the son of the late John G. and Felicia (Bukowski) Preisner Sr. He was married to the former Dorothy J. Oczkowski. They were married for 66 years. She survives at home. John was Roman Catholic and attended Holy Spirit Parish, St. Camillus site. He was a graduate of New Castle High School, class of 1955.
Following graduation, John enlisted in the United States Army on August 24, 1961 in Pittsburgh, PA. Mr. Preisner the rank of SP4, E-4 on July 31, 1962. John was transferred to the United States Reserves on August 23, 1963 in Aberdeen PG, MD. Mr. Preisner was Honorably Discharged on August 23, 1967. Mr. Preisner worked as a House Parent at the former Youth Development Center for 18 years. John is a past member of the Youngstown American Federation of Musicians, Local 86-242. He is also a past member of the Penn-Ohio Polka Pals, of which he was included on most of their Polka recordings. John was an accomplished button box player and Polka musician that will be greatly missed by the Polka community, which know him as Johnny Six-Pack. He had great time touring up and down the East coast with his best friend Mike Caggiano. John was a major part of the recording of the Eddie Vallus Band, “Tape 2” and “Buttons and Ivories”. John was a lifetime member of several local clubs; among those were the VFW Post #315, Polish Falcons Nest # 146, and the Fraternal Order of the Eagles. His greatest joy was spending time with his family and friends, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
In addition to his wife Dorothy, John is survived by his two sons, John G. (Rhonda) Preisner of Hillsville, PA. and David M. Preisner of New Castle; daughter, Carol A. Delaney of New Castle; brother, Ted (Virginia) Preisner of New Castle; seven grandchildren, Cody Preisner, David Preisner, Anthony Preisner, Hailee Dutton, Connor Delaney, Riley Delaney, and Kelsey Delaney; and three great-grandchildren, Maddox, Aubrielle and Kinleigh.
Mr. Preisner was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 11, 2024 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Noga Funeral Home, Inc. 1142 Mill Street. The New Castle Area Honor Guard will perform full Military Honors for Mr. Preisner at 6:30 p.m. in the funeral home.
A Blessing service will be conducted at 4 p.m. in the funeral home immediately followed by visitation. Rev. Aaron Kriss will officiate. Burial will be in S.S. Philip and James Cemetery.
