Lorraine R. Gabriel

Lorraine R. Gabriel, 87, of Vogan Street, New Castle passed away the morning of September 13, 2023 at Haven Convalescent Home.

Lorraine was born June 1, 1936 in East Chicago, Indiana. She was the daughter of the late Albert and Mary (Beshero) Omer. Lorraine was married to the late Eugene J. “Murphy” Gabriel. He preceded her in death on April 24, 2012. They were married for 57 years. Mrs. Gabriel was a devoted member of St. John the Baptist Maronite Catholic Church.

Mrs. Gabriel will be remembered by her family as a loving mother, wife, sister, and grandmother. She also worked outside the home at the former Joseph’s Supermarket on Long Ave. Lorraine was dedicated and worked tirelessly at St. John’s the Baptist Maronite Church, and for Our Lady of Lebanon Shrine. She enjoyed decorating and preparing her home during the holidays for her family. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family and friends, especially her grandchildren.

Lorraine is survived by two sons, Eugene W. (Toni) Gabriel and Mark J. Gabriel, both of New Castle; sister, Kathleen (Pat) Antonio of New Castle; two grandchildren, Christopher E. Gabriel, and Michael T. Gabriel both of New Castle; several nieces and nephews; and daughter-in-law, Vivian Gabriel.

In addition to her husband Eugene, Lorraine was preceded in death by her son, David M. Gabriel; three brothers, Fred, Raymond, and Carl Omer; and one sister and brother-in-law, Nancy (John) Scarnati.

Calling hours will be held today Friday, September 15, 2023 from 10 – 1 p.m. at the Noga Funeral Home, Inc. 1142 S. Mill Street, New Castle.

A procession will leave the funeral home at 1 p.m. for St. John’s the Baptist Maronite Catholic Church, where a Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated at 1:30 p.m. The Rev. Hanna Karam, pastor of St. John’s the Baptist Maronite Catholic Church will officiate. Burial will be in St. Vitus Cemetery.
