Lucille C. (Stroia) Tanner

Lucille C. Tanner, 85, of 616 Hunter Lane, New Castle went home to be with her Lord and Savior the morning of February 8, 2022 at UPMC Jameson Hospital.

Lucille was born October 19, 1936 in New Castle. She was the daughter of the late Nick and LuLa (Allred) Stroia. Lucille married Robert G. Tanner on August 19, 1961. He preceded her in death on February 28, 2013. They were married for 51 years. Mrs. Tanner was a Charter member of the Independent Methodist Church. She was a graduate of Shenango High School, class of 1954.

Mrs. Tanner worked as a sales clerk at the former Simon Blau Store for many years. Lucille was an excellent cook and had a very large collection of Cookbooks. Her family would call on her to find a recipe when needed. She was a Pittsburgh sports fan and knew a lot of different facts about the Pittsburgh teams. She enjoyed reading her bible and attending bible studies on Wednesdays and Sunday school. Lucille served on several different committees at church, as a Lector, and Friday morning cleaning crew.

Lucille is survived by her two children, Luanne (Michael) Salak and Michael P. Tanner, both of New Castle; three grandchildren, Perry Salak, Tara Oliva, and Sarahanne (Tyler) Kirkwood, all of New Castle; and two great-grandchildren, Grace Oliva, and Gavin Oliva, both of New Castle.

In addition to her parents and husband Robert, Lucille was preceded in death by her son, Deron Tanner; two sisters, Nellie Mioni and Nancy Orelli; and four brothers, Nicholas, William, John, and Pete Stroia.

A private funeral service will be celebrated at the Noga Funeral Home, Inc. 1142 S. Mill Street on Saturday morning. The Rev. Fredrick Gilbert of Independent Methodist Church will officiate. Burial will be in Oak Park Cemetery. The family would like to thank Dr. Paras and staff for their kindness and care.
