Margaret Cope Miron, age 101, of Shenango Township passed away November 28, 2023.
She was born September 12, 1922 in Fairhope, PA. She was the daughter of the late Russell and Margaret Scott Cope. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 59 years, Adolph Miron in 2004. They married August 8, 1945. Margaret attended Marion High School in Fairhope, PA and took pride in playing on the girls’ varsity basketball team as a freshman and was also President of her sophomore class. After high school she enrolled in NYA School (National Youth Administration) in South Park, PA and lived in barracks similar to soldiers. She was educated to operate machinery before landing a job at Curtis Wright in Beaver, PA. There she performed testing on propeller blades. This was during war time and Margaret was seen as one of the original Rosie Riveters. This is where she met her future husband before he left for WW II.
Margaret was the former President of the South New Castle Boro Ladies Firehall Auxiliary and member for over 25 years. She also managed the bingo kitchen for years. She was the owner of The Trading Post for 30 years, which was New Castles’ 1 st clothing resale consignment store. She took great pride in purchasing this business at the age of 50 and retiring at age 80.
Margaret enjoyed her antiques, shopping and collecting them. She was an avid canner in her early years of marriage. She was proud of her fruit cellar that contained hundreds of canned fruits and vegetables from the garden. She enjoyed going to card parties, playing 500 bid cards and was active even in recent years.
She is survived by her daughters Pattie Miron (Rick) Scarnati, Margaret (Margie) Matthews, and Cindy (Paul) Scaramazza. She is also survived by her grandchildren Rachelle Harrison, Ryan (Kim) Boak, Christa Matthews, Andrea (JR) Canonge, Margaret Plotts and Natalie (Thomas) Sims. Several great-grandchildren also added to her joy. Alyssa (Dan) Palmer, Lee (L J), Malix (Chevy), and Margaret VII Plotts, Ava and Aria Canonge and Thomas Sims III as well as her sweet great-great grandsons Leo and Henry Palmer of Huntersville, NC. In addition she leaves her dear step-grandchildren Mark (Maegan) Matthews of Sharpsville, PA and Amber Matthews (Bobby) Williams of Redding, CA and their extended families. She also leaves her “adopted” sister Cindy Minich. Margaret never had a sister nor Cindy and their friendship bonded quickly as “sisters”. She is survived by two extra special sisters-in-law Elizabeth (Betty) Cope of Fort Myers, FL and Adrienne Cope of Aurora, CO and several precious nieces and nephews.
Sadly her daughter Amelia “Lynn” Boak passed away October 6, 2022, son William Lee (Billy) Miron on December 2, 1972 and grandson, Richard (Richie) Lee Boak April 1987. She was also preceded in death by her brothers Scott, Russell and Lee Cope and sons-in-law Dick Boak and James Matthews.
