Marian Ann Abraham, 91, of New Castle passed away the evening of September 15, 2024 at UPMC Jameson Care Center.
Marian was born September 28, 1932 in Port Vue (McKeesport), PA to Bakous and Marie Gabriel Jacobs. Marian was a graduate of New Castle High School, class of 1950. She worked at JJ Dean Grocery Company in the billing department and Shop and Save payroll department for over 20 years. She married Thomas A. Abraham, Sr. on October 16, 1954. Thomas proposed to Marian on their third date. They were married for 54 years.
In addition to her parents and husband, Marian was preceded in death by three sisters, Josephine, Lucy (Joseph) Saad, and Martha (Tony) Sisney, along with two brothers, Anthony (Shirley) and John (Gaylene) Jacobs, sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Anna (Joseph) Joseph; Theresa (Edward) Moses; Rose (Edward) Mitchell; Jenny Elias; Michael (Kathy); Lucille; and John (Betty). In January of 1964, Marian endured heartache when her infant son of one week, Patrick, passed away. His hair clippings and pictures will be buried with her. Patrick is buried at Marian’s gravesite.
Marian was a lifelong member of St. John the Baptist Maronite Church and Altar and Rosary Society where she spent decades cooking, baking, and braiding palms with her fellow relatives and church ladies. Marian was notorious for tending to those in need or who were hurting. She was always visiting others in the nursing homes or who were sick or suffering from heartache. Her kindness and gentle spirit echoed her soft and comforting voice. Marian was filled with compassion for others. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family. When they were able to be together, they made it count.
Marian is survived by five of her children: Cecelia, of Greenville, South Carolina; Gregory of New Castle; Thomas (Christine), of Horsham, PA; Paul of Lancaster, Ohio; and Jonalyn (James) Romeo, of Harmony, PA. In addition to her children, she is survived by seven grandchildren, Nora, Katherine, Thomas III, Erin, Ashley (Bret), Lindsey, and Nathan, along with four great-grandchildren, Kohen, Emma, Cecelia, and Miles; and her sister-in-law, Kathy (Michael) Abraham.
Marian enjoyed reading, baking, cooking, and playing cards. She cooked extravagant meals for her family throughout the year as an expression of her love, and enjoyed feeding anyone that came over to the home that she lived in for 70 years.
