Maryann Pilch of New Castle, Pennsylvania, began her rebirth in heaven on her 80th birthday, Christmas Eve, December 24, 2023, after being surrounded by her adoring family.
Born Christmas Eve 1943, Maryann was lovingly known as “Bis” to her husband, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchild. She was the best sister, aunt, and was the most loyal friend to those she held close.
She was a graduate of Union High School; she was a keypunch operator at Bell Telephone, then worked in the mail department of Rockwell International, where she delivered mail throughout the plant. She was in her 20’s and was as gorgeous as actress Natalie Wood. The mental image of her delivering mail in her hard hat and orthopedic shoes is reason to smile. Maryann was a member of Holy Spirit Parish, where she had served as a eucharistic minister at the St. James worship site. Holy Trinity Parish held a special place in her heart.
Maryann is now reunited in heaven with her beloved relatives including her husband of 59 years, Don (“Pa”); their daughter, Dianne Khristine; her parents, Casimir “George” and Ann Wojtowicz, and her brother, Ray Wojtowicz.
She is survived by her son, Greg (Cheryl) Pilch; daughter, Dawn (Joe)Piroli; grandchildren, Brianna (Dillon) Murphy, Bailey (Noah VanEvera) Pilch, Brayden Pilch, Brooklynn Pilch, Joe (Katie) Piroli; her great-granddaughter, Ava Piroli; and sister-in-law, Theresa Wojtowicz.
Maryann had a knack for making everything as beautiful as she was. If you went to dinner at their house in the middle of the week, the tablescape featured stemware and doilies. If you received a gift from her, not only was the gift perfect, but the wrappings were a work of art. But her most cherished gift to us was her kind, selfless soul. Her biggest joy came from making sure her family members were happy, loved, and cared for; covering us with an extra blanket, making one of our favorite meals, wrapping us in her loving arms when we were sad, or proudly supporting us in our biggest triumphs. She and Pa were our biggest champions. She was also extraordinarily funny. Pa was more of the comedian in the family; she was the queen of the zingers. We keep a funny “quote of the day”; book in our family. Bis had the most entries. She was truly our bluebird of happiness and will be missed immeasurably.
Private funeral arrangements are entrusted to Noga Funeral Home.
