Michael Johnston Obituary

Michael A. Johnston, 74, of New Castle PA passed away the afternoon of October 23, 2021 at his residence.

Michael was born October 5, 1947 in Milwaukee, WI. He was the son of the late Charles and Shirley Johnston. Mr. Johnston was of the Christian faith, and a high school graduate. Following graduation, Michael enlisted in the United States Marine Corps on June 28, 1965 in Milwaukee, WI. Mr. Johnston earned the rank of Sergeant on April 1, 1968. He was a member of the Tactical Marine Squad. Mr. Johnston received many decorations and citations, among them where National Defense Medal, Rifle Marksman Badge (M-14 Rifle), Vietnam Service Medal with two Bronze Stars, Vietnam Campaign Medal with device, Good Conduct Medal, Combat Action Ribbon, and Meritorious Mast. Michael was Honorably Discharged on June 14, 1971 at the Marine Corp. Data Service Center in Kansas City, Missouri.

Mr. Johnston worked for numerous years as a laborer for Conrail Railroad Company. Michael also worked at the extension office. He retired after 30 year of service with a local landscaping company. Michael was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying ice fishing, fishing, and hunting. He loved being outside working in his yard, and became a Master Gardener. He was the life of the party and enjoyed making everyone laugh.

Michael is survived by his four daughters, Diana (companion Robert Payne) Johnston of New Castle, Michelle (Jason) Willits of Greenfield, IN, Monica (Jeff) Woodside of Hampden, ME, and Kelly Norris of New Castle; brother, Chuck Johnston of New Castle; three sisters, Jill (Tony) Clopper of Milwaukee, WI, Heather Johnston of Milwaukee, WI, and Sandra (Joseph) Beauchamp of Scottsdale, AZ; twelve grandchildren, Ashley, Parker, Peyton, Alexis, Darian, Allerhez,, Maaliyah, Cherish, Ashlynn, Jason, Jamie, and Kaylee; six great-grandchildren, Malina, Domenick, Torretto, Braylin, Ella and Emma.

In addition to his parents, Michael was preceded in death by his two brothers, Robert and David Johnston; and sister, Kathleen Johnston.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 27, 2021 from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Noga Funeral Home Inc., 1142 Mill Street, New Castle. The New Castle Area Honor Guard will perform full military honors for Michael at 2:45 p.m. in the funeral home.

A Funeral Service will be held immediately following the military honors visitation in the funeral home. Rev. Matthew Bupp will officiate. The family is asking for all visitors to wear a favorite sports team jersey or in casual attire. Arrangements were entrusted to the Noga Funeral Home, Inc. 1142 S. Mill Street. New Castle.
