Patricia Helen Litwinowicz, 75, of New Castle, Pennsylvania died the morning of January 15, 2024 in St. Clair Hospital, Pittsburgh, PA.
Patricia was born September 19, 1948 to Walter C. and Helen I. (Zombek) Litwinowicz in New Castle, PA. She graduated from Neshannock High School in 1966 and Edinboro University in 1970. She earned her Master’s Degree in Education from Westminster College, New Wilmington, PA in 1973.
She began her professional career in 1970 as a kindergarten teacher at Rose Avenue Elementary School in the New Castle Area School District. After receiving her Master’s Degree, Patti became a Reading Specialist and was a Remedial Reading teacher at Lincoln-Garfield Elementary School. As the District made changes to address student needs, Patti was a math teacher for Grade 6 at George Washington Intermediate School for many years, where she retired after 35 years of service.
In her early years, Patti helped her family by taking orders and assisting with business operations at C. Walt Litwinowicz Beverage Distributor. Patti loved to knit and was known for her expertise with complex designs and creating beautiful gifts for family and friends. She also loved to travel and combined these two loves with Knitting Tours of Ireland and Scotland. She traveled extensively in Europe, Australia, New Zealand, and Machu Picchu in Peru, South America to experience their history and culture. Patti was a very loyal Alumna of her high school and colleges. She attended all of her class reunions at Neshannock High School, participated in homecoming celebrations at Edinboro University and enjoyed the Celebrity Series at Westminster College.
Patti was a member of the Karuzela Polish song and dance ensemble and the Lithuanian Neris dance group in Pittsburgh, PA. She took Polish language classes at the Holy Trinity Polish National Catholic Church in New Castle. As a lifetime adult learner, she learned to play the piano and pursued her interests in tap, ballet, and modern dance. She took Japanese language lessons before officially representing New Castle with its sister city in Shinshiro, Aichi, Japan. Patti was a faithful member of the Holy Spirit Parish of New Castle and was formerly a long time member of Madonna Church.
Patricia is survived by her sister Alice M. Litwinowicz of Derwood, MD. She is also survived by her sister-in-law Judy (Gary) Litwinowicz of Brant Beach, NJ; her nephew Jeffrey Litwinowicz of Ft. Montgomery, NY; her niece Amy (Nicolaj) Noes of Sydney, Australia; a great nephew, Ethan Noes and great nieces Emma Noes and Madison Noes; and many cousins.
Patti was preceded in death by her parents and brothers, Gary W. Litwinowicz, Frank S. Litwinowicz and Chester W. (Chet) Litwinowicz.
In keeping with her wishes, a Mass of Christian Burial along with a celebration of her life will be held for family and friends at Holy Spirit Parish, Mary-Mother of Hope site at 10 AM, Monday, March 4, 2024. The Reverend Aaron Kriss Parochial Vicar of Holy Spirit Parish will officiate. Burial will be in Madonna Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations are made to the American Heart Association or another charity of the donor’s choosing, in Patti’s name.
