Paula Slater Obituary

Paula Doreen Slater-Marcella passed away in Davie, Florida on Friday, August 19th, 2022, with her husband, Howard Slater, by her side.

Paula Slater was born on May 7th, 1949, to Mildred Marcella-Percic and Paul Marcella. She was the owner of Paula’s Beauty Salon on Fairmont Avenue in New Castle, PA for more than 40 years. She was a 1967 graduate of Neshannock High School.

Paula was blessed with a large amount of loving family and friends. The world has truly lost a beloved mother, friend, and mentor. Everyone knew her as a kind soul, always willing to cheer others with hugs and kisses. Like dandelion seeds in breezes, her memory now floats freely where it pleases. Anyone who knew Paula, knew that she was the most loving human being, friend, sibling, and mother a family could ever ask for. She shared this same love with her community of friends, professionals, and acquaintances spanning across the country. She truly lived a beautifully diverse and accomplished life and we should all be happy to have known her. Paula’s most cherished time was when she spent time with her son, David, his wife, Ninoska, and her two grandchildren David and Sofia. She loved being a grandmother and was very proud of David and Sofia. Paula was a fun-loving person and a dear part of so many people’s lives and was very generous with her time and spirit. She was very involved at Saint Camillus Roman Catholic Church. She gave of herself by baking with the Lady’s Guild at church, and volunteering at the St. Vitus Bazaar with friends she called the “Puffettes.” She taught pie baking classes especially her famous cherry pie and raised scholarship money for young women through the American Business Women’s Association (ABWA). She loved to travel, laugh, cook, and dine with her friends and family. She was a devoted Catholic and life-long parishioner at St. Camillus Roman Catholic Church.

Paula will be reunited with her cherished baby daughter, Susan Slater, beloved brother Paul Larry Marcella, and her parents Mildred Marcella-Percic and Paul Marcella in heaven. She is survived by her husband Howard Slater, Davie, Florida; son, David Slater, Parkland, FL, Daughter-in-law Ninoska Slater, Parkland, FL; grandchildren, David and Sofia Slater, Parkland, FL; sister Maxine Marcella, The Villages, FL; and many nieces and nephews and godchildren.

A private Blessing Service will be held next week with Deacon John Carran officiating from Holy Spirit Parish. Inurnment will be in St. Joseph Cemetery.
