Ralph Perrone Obituary

Ralph P. Perrone, "Mushroom Man”, 78 of 2219 Berger Street passed away on January 6, 2026 at UPMC Jameson Hospital.

Ralph was born December 28, 1947 in New Castle. He was the son of the late James V. and Ruth (Spears) Perrone, Sr. He graduated from Shenango High School in 1965. He continued his education, earning an associate degree from Penn State University-Shenango Campus in Mechanical Engineering. Ralph retired after 25 years of service as Construction Manager with the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation, based out of Oil City, PA, and was a part of the ASHE (American Society of Highway Engineers).

He was a past president of the Wheatland Coin Club and was past president/vice president of the Greenville Coin Club for over two decades. He was a member of several other numismatic clubs among those were Meadville and Warren. His love and passion for numismatics will live on through all those he brought into the hobby.  Including the multiple Boy Scout troops, he assisted in getting their coin collecting merit badge. Ralph was also a member of the Tri County Metal Detecting Club. He enjoyed hunting, camping at The Days End camp in Tidioute, PA, hiking, playing cards & scrabble, gardening, and his cat “Mr. Spock". And of course, he loved watching old television shows from the 1950’s.  He also had a passion for music, especially the Eagles. Ralph was an expert mushroom hunter, enjoying this activity since 1971. He had a following from the radio station Y-103 from his many appearances as “Mushroom Man” on their morning show. His greatest joy was spending time with his family and friends.  His passing reminds us to cherish our loved ones.

Ralph is survived by his two daughters, Lisa Ann Morse of New Castle and Britt Rose (Michael J.) Perrone-Fox of Austintown, OH; son, Ralph P. (Lindsy) Perrone, II of Youngstown, OH; brother, James V. (Paula) Perrone, Jr. of New Castle; sister, Rosanne (Ken) Atkinson of Woodstock, Ontario, Canada; grandson, Devin J. Williams of New Castle; two nieces, three nephews, and three great-nieces.

In addition to his parents, Ralph was preceded in death by both his maternal and paternal grandparents.
