Richard T. Ayres, Sr. 96 of 1143 State Road, New Castle passed away the morning of February 28, 2024 at his residence.

Mr. Ayres was born December 25, 1927 in New Castle. He was the son of the late William and Olive Ayres. Richard was married to the late Mary Westcott. They were married for 22 years, she preceded him in death in 1971. He was a graduate of New Castle High School, class of 1945.

Following graduation, Richard enlisted in the United States Army on April 16, 1946 in Pittsburgh, PA. He served his country during World War II. Richard was a member of the 707th Ordnance Maintenance Company. Mr. Ayres received many decorations and citations, among them where Army of Occupation Medal, and World War II Victory Medal. Richard was Honorably Discharged on May 4, 1947 at the Separation Center at Camp Beale, Ca. Richard was an avid outdoorsman and loved going fishing in his spare time.

Richard is survived by his two sons, Richard T. Ayres, Jr and Randy Ayres both of New Castle; a daughter, Frances (Larry) Jones of New Castle; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and three great-great grandchildren.

In addition to his parents and wife Mary, Richard was preceded in death by a brother, and a sister.

Visitation will be held on Friday, March 1, 2024 from 10 to 11am at the Noga Funeral Home Inc. 1142 Mill Street, New Castle.

A Funeral Service will immediately follow visitation in the funeral home. Rev. Matthew Bupp will officiate. Burial will be in Oak Park Cemetery.
