Richard Harris Obituary

Richard B. Harris, 81, of 412 Cambridge St. New Castle passed away the afternoon of October 8, 2020 at his residence surrounded by loved ones.

Richard was born June 2, 1939 in New Castle. He was the son of the late Brinley R. and Bertha H. (Liskooka) Harris. Mr. Harris was a member of the Shenango Christian Church and passed Deacon.

Mr. Harris enlisted in the United States Army on January 15, 1958 in Pittsburgh. Richard earned the rank of SP4 on January 25, 1959. He was a member of the 538th Ordinance Company as a Carpenter. Richard was Honorably Discharged on January 14, 1961 at Fort Knox, KY. Richard received the Good Conduct Medal. Mr. Harris was transferred to the USAR XXI US Army Corps and was Honorably Discharged from the reserves January 14, 1964.

Mr. Harris worked for many years at the former Mesta Machine Shop, and retired from Fleming Steel as a Welder. Mr. Harris enjoyed the outdoors for walking, exercising, and fishing. He was an avid sports fan, especially baseball. Mr. Harris enjoyed reading and having a cold beer. He enjoyed spending time with his daughter and friends; especially his granddaughters.

Richard is survived by his daughter, Nicole D. (Jeffrey Stoddard) McClain of New Castle; two sisters, Sandy Sweet and Joan (Clyde) Stewart, both of New Castle; two granddaughters, Jenna McClain, and Mary Faith McClain.

In addition to his parents, Richard was preceded in death by his niece, Robin (Sweet) Adler.

Family and friends will celebrate Richard’s life and give remembrance with a private visitation on Monday evening. The New Castle Area Honor Guard will perform Military Honors Monday evening at 7 p.m.

 A Funeral service will be celebrated at the Noga Funeral Home Inc. Tuesday morning at 10:30 a.m.  Pastor Tim Irwin of Shenango Christian Church will officiate. Burial will be in Oak Park Cemetery. The family is asking that memorial donations be made to Three Rivers Hospice 26 Nesbitt Rd. Ste 200, New Castle, PA 16105 in his name.
