Samuel Ames Obituary

Samuel P. Ames, 91 of New Castle passed away the evening of February 18, 2021 at Shenango on the Green Nursing Home.

Samuel was born August 28, 1929 in Ottawa, IL. He was the son of the late Walter A. and Alice B. (Parnell) Ames. Samuel was married to the former Helen E. Tomco. They were married for 65 years. Mr. Ames was of the Roman Catholic faith and attended Holy Spirit Parish-St. Vincent De Paul Parish. He was a graduate of Union High School, class of 1947.

Following graduation Mr. Ames enlisted in the United States Army in 1951 at Pittsburgh, PA. Samuel was a member of the Transportation Corp. He served his country as an Auxiliary Equipment Operator. Samuel operated and maintained diesel engines on Army Vessels on the James River. Mr. Ames earned the rank of Corporal. He was Honorably Discharged in 1959 at Fort Eustis, VA.  Mr. Ames retired after 43 years of service with the Pennsylvania Power Company. Samuel was a member of the American Legion Post #343 and the N.R.A. He enjoyed hunting, traveling with his family, working on his cars, woodworking and numerous projects at home. Mr. Ames was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan. His greatest joy was spending time with his family and friends.

In addition to his wife Helen, Samuel is survived by his daughter, Kathleen Erboe of New Castle; two sons, Richard (Gloria) Ames of Eighty-Four, PA, and Kenneth (Janet) Ames of Canfield, OH; and several Nieces and Nephews.

Mr. Ames was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, George, Robert, and Walter E. Ames; two sisters, Ruth Rae, and Dorothy Allshouse.

Private Service was held on Tuesday, February 23, 2021 at the Noga Funeral Home Inc. 1142 Mill Street, New Castle Pa.  The Rev. Anthony Sciarappa Parochial Vicar of Holy Spirit Parish officiated. Burial was at St. Joseph Cemetery. The family is asking that memorial donations be made in Samuel’s name to St. Judes Research Hospital, 62 Danny Thomas Place Memphis, TN 38105 or American Heart Association, 7272 Greenville Ave.Dallas, TX 75231
