Thomas A. Martwinski, 85 of 380 Villa Dr. Villa Maria PA 16155 passed away the evening of June 19, 2022 at UPMC Jameson Hospital.
Tom was born October 27, 1936 in New Castle. He was the son of the late Vincent and Ann (Yakob) Martwinski. Tom was married to Shirley Mead for over 65 years and she resides at the Villa Maria. Tom was a member of the Church of the Good Shepherd in West Middlesex. Mr. Martwinski was a graduate of Shenango High School, class of 1954.
Following graduation, Tom enlisted in the United States Army on February 17, 1956 in New Castle, PA. Mr. Martwinski received the Good Conduct Medal and the rank of SP3 on June 7, 1957. He was a member of the 128th Evacuation Hospital. Mr. Martwinski was transferred on February 13, 1958 to USAR Pennsylvania Military District, and Honorable Discharged on February 16, 1962 In Pittsburgh, PA. Tom retired after 34 years, as a machinist at Flow Line Corporation in New Castle. With prior work at America Cyanamid building staging material for the Apollo rockets. For over 40 years, Tom was an active member of the Shenango Township Volunteer Fire Department, and served as Treasurer for 22 years. He was a member of the Polish Falcon, Nest #146. Tom and Shirley were members of St. Joseph the Worker Parish for 44 years. For over 25 years they were councilors of the premarital retreats guiding hundreds of couples through the sacred experience of marriage. Tom was widely known for his servant heart, his sense of fun and generous spirit. His greatest joy was spending time with his family and friends and a good polka.
In addition to his wife Shirley, Tom is survived by two daughters, Kim Ann (Thomas) Schwartz of Colerain, NC and Sherry Ann (Mike) Herrera-McLaren of Colorado Springs, CO; one son, Tom (Beth) Martwinski of Leesburg VA, four brothers, Paul (Kathy) Martwinski of Ellwood City, Daniel (Judy) Martwinski, Robert Martwinski, and Richard Martwinski all of New Castle; ten grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren along with beloved nephews, nieces, cousins and many dear friends.
Calling hours will be held on Friday, June 24, 2022 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Noga Funeral Home 1142 Mill Street New Castle. The family respectfully request masks are worn inside.
A procession will leave the funeral home on Saturday, June 25, 2022 at 12:15 pm for The Church of Good Shepherd where a Mass of Christian Burial and Rite of Committal will be held at 1pm. Rev. Glenn Whitman, will officiate. The New Castle Area Honor Guard will perform full Military Honors following the committal prayers. Burial to be in Hillcrest Memorial Park in Hermitage.
