Walter S. Mrozek

Walter S. Mrozek, 76, of New Castle passed away the afternoon of September 1, 2023 at UPMC Jameson Hospital.

Walter was born March 25, 1947 in New Castle. He was the son of the late Walter and Victoria (Pierog) Mrozek. He was married to the former Dorothy Rachic; they were married for 56 years. She survives at home. Walter was of the Roman Catholic faith and a member of Holy Spirit Parish, St. Anthony’s site. He was a graduate of Mohawk High School, class of 1965. 

Following graduation, Walter served in the United States Army, armored tank division, stationed in Germany for majority of his military service. Walter retired after 18 years of service as a Millwright with several local companies; some of those are LTV Steel/Youngstown Sheet and Tube, and Pennsylvania Rolling Mills. He enjoyed buying and selling at flea markets with his wife and his greatest joy was spending time with his family and friends, especially his grandchildren. 

In addition to his wife, Walter is survived by his son, Todd (Tammy) Mrozek, Bloomsburg, PA; two sisters, Kathy (Ray) Akstulewicz and Rosemarie Tammaro, both of New Castle; two grandchildren, Megan Mrozek of Berwick, PA and Zach Mrozek of Philadelphia. 

Walter is preceded in death by his parents, son, Mark J. Mrozek, brother-in-law, Ralph Tammaro; and niece, Vicki Lynn Tammaro.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 7, 2023 from 10 to 11:30 a.m. at the Noga Funeral Home Inc. 1142 Mill Street, New Castle.

A Blessing services will be celebrated immediately following visitation in the funeral home. Fr. Ben Barr, Parochial Vicar of Holy Spirit Parish will officiate. Burial for Walter will be in S.S. Philip and James Cemetery.
