Wanda Nickum, 92, of New Castle passed away the evening of January 24, 2024 at UPMC Jameson Hospital.
Wanda was born June 5, 1931 in New Castle. She was the daughter of the late Frank and Julia (Kaczmarczyk) Yarosz. Wanda was married Joseph J. Nickum, Jr. on April 28, 1951. He preceded her in death on April 27, 2017. Wanda was a lifelong member of Holy Trinity Polish National Catholic Church. Mrs. Nickum was a honor graduate of New Castle High School, class of 1949
Wanda worked in the office of Shenango China upon graduation. After the birth of her daughter she worked for 32 years in the office of Kings Jewelry the LaMark Corp. Upon retirement she enjoyed taking care of her grandson and being a homemaker for her family. She also enjoyed working at her church making pierogies, helping at bazars, and dinners.
Mrs. Nickum is survived by a son, John (Patti) Nickum of New Castle; daughter, Susan E. (Anthony) Bartolone of Enon Valley, PA; four grandchildren, Kimberly Craver, John Nickum, Nicole Lennox and Anthony Bartolone; nine great-grandchildren, Josef Craver, Willem Craver, Wyatt Craver, Elise Craver, Landon Nickum, Lila Nickum, Lucia Nickum, Joseph Lennox, and Julia Lennox.
In addition to her parents and husband Joseph, Wanda was preceded in death by her sister, Stella Rzicznek.
Calling hours will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, January 29, 2024 at the Noga Funeral Home Inc. 1142 S. Mill Street New Castle.
A procession will leave the funeral home Tuesday morning at 10 a.m. for Holy Trinity Polish National Catholic Church, where a mass of Christian burial and Rite of Committal will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Msgr. John A. Rencewicz II will officiate. Burial will be in Holy Trinity Polish National Catholic Cemetery.
